Saskatchewan Conservative MPs Urge Emergency
Debate When MPs Return
Ottawa—Souris-Moose Mountain
MP, Ed Komarnicki, today said he and his Conservative colleagues
in Saskatchewan are trying to sponsor an emergency debate on the
BSE crisis when MPs return to Parliament on October 4th.
“The aid package that was
recently released by the government, lacks the sufficient funds
and details to help farmers survive in the short term, let alone
thrive in the long term,” said Komarnicki. “For that
reason, and the desperation that is arising from the BSE crisis
and the overall farm income crisis in general, an emergency debate
in Parliament should be the first order of business.”
The Saskatchewan Caucus of thirteen
Conservative MPs agreed to work together to promote the issue,
which has become vitally important, not only to agriculture producers,
but to the Province as a whole.
“For too long, the Liberal
government has not responded adequately to farmers’ needs
in Western Canada,” Komarnicki stated. “With this
emergency debate and the fact that we are dealing with a minority
government, I believe we can push the agenda, to the benefit of
our farmers and the people of Saskatchewan as a whole.”
