Seven Communities Benefit as More Recreational Infrastructure Funding
Flows to Souris-Moose Mountain

Estevan, Saskatchewan – Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced that the federal government is allocating $370,936 in funding for seven more communities in Souris-Moose Mountain under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program. The communities will use the funding to make much needed upgrades to their local recreational infrastructure.

The following communities are benefiting from funding: Fillmore, Ochapowace First Nation, Radville, Redvers, Rural Municipality of Cymri No.36 (Midale), Stoughton and Wawota.

“The Recreation Infrastructure Canada program has been an important component of our government’s Economic Action Plan and I’m pleased that so many communities in Souris-Moose Mountain have been able to benefit from the program,” said Komarnicki. “The recreational facilities in our small communities serve an important role in bringing communities together. These investments will encourage greater participation in physical activity and will ensure that our local families have access to the recreational infrastructure we need today and for years to come.”

The Federal Government is allocating $370,936 in funding for these seven recreational infrastructure projects through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Upgrades to many of these recreation infrastructure projects will be commencing immediately. For many projects, the work is long overdue and as such the timing of the funding is welcomed.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $163 million in RInC funding will be invested across the four western provinces.

RInC is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada’s multi-faceted stimulus plan that will ensure a quick recovery from the current economic downturn. Western Economic Diversification Canada is delivering the initiative in the four western provinces.
