Conservatives Challenge the Liberals, NDP and
Bloc by Introducing Bill for Repeal of Long-Gun Registry

Ottawa- This week, Bill C-391, a Bill to eliminate the gun registry was debated in the House of Commons at Second Reading.

“I endorse this Bill introduced by my colleague Candice Hoeppner, Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar,” said Ed Komarnicki Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain. “The legislation calls for a straightforward repeal of the long-gun registry and that is exactly what we should do. The registry since its inception has proved to be ineffective, costly and a complete waste of tax payers’ dollars.”

Candice Hoeppner, Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar, started the debate by asking all members of the House, including opposition members to stand up for what their constituents want and for what they believe is in the best interest of Canadians, by supporting the elimination of the long-gun registry.

“Unfortunately to date, the opposition parties have continually blocked our efforts, including the right to vote on this Private Member’s Bill,” said Komarnicki. “Now that the Bill is votable each of the opposition NDP, Liberal and Bloc members need to stop defending the ineffective long-gun registry and support the passage of this Bill.”

It is remarkable that Liberal critic Mark Holland during debate stated, “This Bill is both irresponsible and unnecessary, and my submission to the House is that it needs to be defeated.”

“It is my view that constituents will not take lightly the actions of any party or member that opposes my colleague’s Bill that will abolish the long- gun registry once and for all,” concluded Komarnicki.
