“Ralph Goodale and the Liberals Vote Against Tax Relief
for Homeowners and Farmers,” says Komarnicki

September 18, 2009- Today in the House of Commons, Ralph Goodale and the Liberals stood up and voted against an important Ways and Means motion to implement key provisions of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

“This is a remarkable example of the Liberals playing politics purely motivated by self interest,” said Komarnicki. “The Liberals have demonstrated that they have little or no regard for Canadians and what is in the best interest of Canadians.”

Ralph Goodale and the Liberals voted against the popular Home Renovation Tax Credit that is helping not just homeowners, but everyone from lumber producers to construction workers, as well as hardware and home building supply stores.

“It is incredibly short sighted,” said Komarnicki. “A program like this is precisely what the economy needs.”

Other important measures that were included in the motion are:

  • First Time Home Buyers Tax Credit to assist first-time homebuyers with the costs associated with buying a home, such as legal fees;
  • Extended tax deferral available to farmers in drought and flood regions to help farmers cope with extreme weather conditions;
  • Tariff Relief to make it easier for Canadian businesses to import and export goods by improving the rules on temporary cargo containers;
  • Enhanced Working Income Tax Benefit to help ensure low-income workers are better off financially by remaining or becoming employed;
“It is clear that Goodale and the Liberals are not acting in the best interest of the Saskatchewan people,” said Komarnicki. “This was nothing more than a selfish pursuit to force a wasteful, unnecessary and opportunistic election that will interrupt work on our economy.”

“Our Economic Action Plan is working and our government’s top priority is the economy,” said Komarnicki. “We will continue to work hard on behalf of Canadians and the people of Saskatchewan to create jobs and build a strong economic recovery.”
