Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan Invest in Manor’s
Recreational Infrastructure
Manor, Saskatchewan – The Village of Manor is moving forward with upgrades to its local rink thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris – Moose Mountain, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Dan D’Autremont, MLA for Cannington, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, announced funding for upgrades to Manor’s arena that will improve the town’s recreational infrastructure.
“Our government’s investment in these upgrades to the Manor rink through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program is great for the community,” said Komarnicki. “The Manor rink will be an important part of the community for years to come as it will provide a place where families, friends and neighbors can gather together for some great recreational and social time.”
“Local rinks are the heart and soul of many small communities across Saskatchewan. With this funding our government is ensuring they continue to be the place of choice in the community,” said D’Autremont. “This project demonstrates your Saskatchewan Party government’s commitment to our constituents and rural communities.”
Funding of $15,973 is being provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Province of Saskatchewan is providing a matching contribution and the Village of Manor will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of nearly $48,000.
Upgrades to the Manor rink will include new safety netting, plexi-glass around the boards, new benches and rubber mats. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009.
“We are grateful for the contributions made by the provincial and federal governments, which combined with what was raised from community businesses and local individuals is making this facility a reality,” said Vickie Akins, Mayor of the Village of Manor. “The new arena will be a multi-purpose building that is much needed in our growing community and will be used by the school as well as the community as a whole.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $163 million in RinC funding will be invested across the four western provinces.
RInC is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada’s multi-faceted stimulus plan that will ensure a quick recovery from the current economic downturn. Western Economic Diversification Canada is delivering the initiative in the four western provinces.
