Komarnicki Announces Government Investment
of Over $25,000 in the Maryfield Community Arena

Maryfield, SK –Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and to the Minister of Labour, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $25,250 in funding to the Village of Maryfield for upgrades to the community arena. This project is one of the first projects to receive funding under the federal government’s Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program in Souris-Moose Mountain.

“I am pleased to see our government investing in worthwhile recreational infrastructure projects such as this project in Maryfield,” said Komarnicki. “Recreation facilities are important to our communities as they provide an outlet where members of the community can get together and participate in recreational activity. With this investment, we are not only promoting healthy living but we are making a long term investment into the future.”

Improvements to the Village of Maryfield’s arena will focus on upgrading the existing washroom facilities in order to both modernize and improve accessibility for all persons. This project will also improve the insulation of the curling rink in order to increase energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

“Every little bit helps,” said David Hill, Mayor of the Village of Maryfield. “It is nice to know that we will be able to make this investment in a facility that is important to our small community.”

Federal funding of $25,250 is being provided by Western Economic Diversification toward this project under the RInC program. The Province of Saskatchewan is matching the $25,250 provided by the federal government, bringing the federal-provincial contribution to $50,500 for a project that will cost $75,750.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. RInC will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
