Komarnicki Announces Government
Investment of Over $33,000
in Sports Field and Track at Woodlawn Regional Park
Estevan, SK –Today, Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and to the Minister of Labour, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced $33,333 in funding for the Rural Municipality of Estevan No.5 to make improvements to the sports field and walking/jogging track at Woodlawn Regional Park. This project is one of the first projects to receive funding under the federal government’s Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program in Souris-Moose Mountain.
“I am pleased to see our government investing in worthwhile recreational infrastructure projects such as this project at Estevan’s Woodlawn Regional Park,” said Komarnicki. “The sports field and track is a much used venue for our community. With this investment, we are not only promoting healthy living but we are making improvements to a recreational site that will be enjoyed for years to come.”
This investment in the Woodlawn Regional Park’s sports field and track will improve the football/soccer field and rehabilitate the track that encircles the playing field. The project will also include additions and enhancements to existing locker rooms.
“This funding to improve the sports field at Woodlawn will enable us to create a facility that our entire community will use and be proud of,” said Greg Hoffort, Administrator for the R.M of Estevan No.5. “The walking track will be well used by the community and the locker room facility will strengthen the minor football program that was developed last year and allow for a successful first year of high school football that will commence this fall.”
Federal funding of $33,333 is being provided by Western Economic Diversification toward this project under the RInC program. The Province of Saskatchewan is matching the $33,333 provided by the federal government, bringing the federal-provincial contribution to $66,666 for a project that will cost $100,000.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. RInC will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
