Ed Komarnicki Wishes the Town of Kipling a Happy 100th Birthday

Kipling, SK (July 31, 2009) – Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and to the Minister of Labour, is pleased to wish the Town of Kipling a happy 100th birthday as it hosts its Centennial Celebration this weekend.

“One of the ways in which communities come together is by holding special events that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity,” said Komarnicki. “Kipling is one of our vibrant communities in southeast Saskatchewan and certainly a community on the rise. The profile that this small town has received in recent years with the Red Paper Clip and its involvement with film production is remarkable and certainly adds to the 100 years of rich history that the Town has to celebrate. I am looking forward to attending some of this weekend’s festivities and taking part in the celebrations.”

The Government of Canada is proud to support Kipling’s Centennial Celebration. The Kipling Centennial Committee received $6,000 through the Government’s Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program to help them host this heritage celebration which is taking place from July 31- August 2, 2009.

“I am extremely pleased that our Government provided an important contribution to the Kipling Centennial Committee to help them organize this weekend,” said Komarnicki. “I also want to thank the many organizers and volunteers who have dedicated their time and efforts to make this event a great success. This weekend’s celebration is not only a festivity that celebrates Kipling’s 100th anniversary, it is an opportunity for the Town to look forward and embrace its future.”

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and historic anniversaries throughout Canada this year.
