Ed Komarnicki Announces Funding for Bengough’s Gateway Festival
Bengough, SK (July 25, 2009) – Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and to the Minister of Labour, today attended the 5th Annual Gateway Festival in Bengough celebrating the local arts and heritage of Bengough and area.
“One of the ways in which communities come together is by holding special events that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity,” said Komarnicki. “The Gateway Festival provides an excellent opportunity to bring friends, neighbours, families and visitors alike together to take part in a diverse assortment of activities and events that pay tribute to our identity as Canadians.”
The Government of Canada is a proud sponsor and supporter of Bengough’s Gateway Festival. This year, the Bengough Municipal Arts Council received $13,900 through the Government’s Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program to help present the festival which is taking place from July 24-26th.
“I am extremely pleased that our Government provided an important contribution to the Bengough Municipal Arts Council this year to help them organize this weekend,” said Komarnicki. “I also want to thank the many festival organizers who have dedicated their time and efforts to make this event a great success. The festival not only provides a fun family environment that celebrates community, it encourages tourism that in turn benefits the local region.”
The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
