Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan
Invest in
Grenfell’s Recreational Infrastructure
Grenfell, Saskatchewan – Grenfell will move forward with improvements to its multi-purpose recreational facility thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, the Honourable Don Toth, Speaker of the Saskatchewan Legislature, on behalf of the Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs and Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris – Moose Mountain, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced funding for the recreational facility in Grenfell.
“The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of the Grenfell multipurpose facility to a healthy and active community,” said Toth. “Our investment in this project will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community.”
“Our Government is taking action to create jobs and build stronger communities,” said MP Komarnicki. “We are following through on our commitment to encourage greater participation in physical activity and promote the use of recreational facilities as the upgraded Grenfell recreational facility will ensure our local families have access to modern infrastructure for years to come.”
Activities to preserve and improve a multi-purpose recreational facility in the Town of Grenfell will ensure the community has access to the essential infrastructure it needs today, and in the future.
Funding of $201,566 is provided through the RInC program. The Province of Saskatchewan will provide a matching contribution and the Town of Grenfell will fund the balance for a total estimated project cost of $604,700.
Work on the facility will preserve and improve the swimming pool/arena in Grenfell. Upgrades will improve the vital community facility and prolong its useful life.
“The time has come for some major repairs and upgrades to be undertaken at the park to ensure its use for many more years to come,” said Mark Saleski, Mayor, Town of Grenfell. “The Town of Grenfell is very pleased to be entering into an agreement with our federal and provincial partners that will provide the necessary funds to maintain and improve this great facility.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
