Ottawa (June 5, 2007)-- Ed Komarnicki, M.P., Souris- Moose Mountain
Ed Komarnicki, Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain confirmed the attendance of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, and James Rajotte, Chair of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology to the Souris- Moose Mountain Constituency on June 15, 2007.
During the visit to the riding, the Minister will meet with EnCana officials and tour EnCana facilities.
“We have here in our constituency, just south of the City of Weyburn, Canada’s largest commercial scale carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery project and the world’s largest geological CO2 sequestration project. I wanted the Minister to see first hand what we are doing here in Souris-Moose Mountain,” said Komarnicki.
Thanks to Weyburn Chamber of Commerce Manager, Jeff Richards, a noon luncheon will be held at the Weyburn Golf Club where the Minister will address the Chamber.
In the afternoon, and time permitting, Bert Roach, the Community Development Manager for the Estevan & District Chamber of Commerce, will host a tour of the Shand Power Station and the strip mining coal operations.
“We expect the Minister to meet and hear from SaskPower officials particularly with regard to the near-zero CO2 emission coal fired plant,” said Komarnicki.
A meeting will also take place between the Minister and a number of biofuel groups in the area and then in the evening the Minister will attend the Souris-Moose Mountain Conservative Association Supper.
“It will be a full day and it is my hope that the Minister will be able to get a good, up close look at what’s happening in our constituency,” said Komarnicki.
